disclaimer: don’t even try to follow my train of thought. and this is in no ways cereal.
sample sentence: we’ll use something I see a lot in AOL chatrooms
luke walks into the forest and leans against a tree.STUDY ONE: asterisk“*luke walks into the forest and leans against a tree.*”asterisks: used in ancient times as a symbol indicating the date of birth. nowadays, they are used to call out a
footnote.
footnote: a note of text on a bottom of a page in a book or document, often used to cite a reference.
the way I see it: one day another person will steal your words and just fancy it up. you will always be a little note on a bottom of a page for others to grope. :/ after all, you are the original one.
STUDY TWO: hyphen“-luke walks into the forest and leans against a tree.-”hyphen: the bridge which connects two words. also used to separate syllables.
the way I see it: there’s a sense of unity between the first and last word. it’s a train to other people’s actions, and when this is used, there is a demand for a reply to complete the puzzle, so to speak. without you will there will be no others.
STUDY THREE: colon“:: luke walks into the forest and leans against a tree. ::”colon: informs the reader what follows will prove and explain.
the way I see it: there’s some sort of justification that’s awaiting to happen, but the writer seems to be holding it off. there’s mystery on the reader’s part and a sense of omniscient on the writer’s.
STUDY FOUR: brackets/parenthesis“( luke walks into the forest and leans against a tree. )”brackets/parenthesis: adds supplementary information, etc etc.
the way I see it: looks clean, you’re probably anal.. and it probably feels better using it because wraps things up in a bubble in a way that it feels
complete and whole. you like things to be perfect.
STUDY FIVE: back/slash“/luke walks into the forest and leans against a tree”back/slash: often used for websites, branching to another domain.
the way I see it: the complete opposite of asterisks, you are the feeddee. if it weren’t for the asterisk, you wouldn’t be. :/ otherwise, as the name suggests,
queer.
STUDY SIX: everything else“?!?!?luke walks into the forest and leans against a tree.?!?!?!”everything else: everything… else.
the way I see it: you are a nonconformist. or just really, really strange.
I tend to throw all other thoughts on
tintinking, so if you like, watch that.
